Ian Horwitz is an art educator and avid outdoorsman living in Richmond, VA. Ian is currently teaching graphic design and art in high school and is an adjunct professor in art education. He earned his BFA in painting and printmaking from Miami University in 2013, MFA from the University of Cincinnati and MAE from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2017. Ian has been fascinated with fishing since he was a little kid with a dinosaur rod and reel in hand. His academic artistic journey eventually brought him to create relief prints and oil paintings inspired by the experiences he had as a fisherman.
Fishing is my passionate exportation to creating art. Casting a fly rod is a stylish gesture carried throughout my technique and composition. I seek to capture the golden experiences the outdoors has offered to me by channeling the feeling you get when you are really out there. The poetic nature of fishing is the foundation for my enthusiasm as an artist and art educator. Fishing is a transcending activity that can be rewarding and disappointing. Teaching art and working in the studio is fishing; all demand a great deal of patience, urgency and an understanding of circumstantial opportunities.
